9/5/2007 Pre Algebra-Subtraction,Multiplication & Division

Today in class, we moved forward to the subtraction, multiplication and division. Remember that subtraction can be rewritten as the addition of the opposite. When multiplying or dividing two numbers with the same sign, the result is positive. When multiplying or dividing two numbers with opposite signs, the result is negative. 9/5/2007 Algebra 1-Functions & Review

Today we will wrap up Chapter 1. Our last section deals with functions. We will define functions and determine whether certain relations are indeed functions. We will do two assignments in class today, one from section 7 (page 49-50, #'s 10-18, 26, 28) and one to review Chapter 1 (page 54-55 #'s 1-21). Both will be done and graded in class.

Homework: none (Test over Chapter 1 next Monday)

9/5/2007 Applied Geometry-Midpoint & Distance Formula

Today students looked at 2 formulas to use in the coordinate plane, the distance formula and the midpoint formula. The video above is something a student from another school created for a project (extra credit anyone?). Students took notes and saw some example problems on finding a midpoint, finding an endpoint when given a midpoint, how to find distance, and comparing the distance formula to the Pythagorean Theorem. Students did a worksheet in class practicing these types of problems, then worked on the assignment for Friday.
