3/26 Pre Algebra - Circumference and Area of Circles & Quiz Review

Today's lesson will focus on area, as we did in the assignment for today. We will be finding the area (and circumference) of circles today. To find the area of a circle, you take its radius squared times π. To find the circumference, you take 2 times π times the radius, or π times the diameter. Click here to read about π (Pi). Students will be doing a worksheet in class and the assignment that will be due for Wednesday follows:

Homework:
p. 531-532 #'s 1-25 & Review Worksheet

3/26 Applied Geometry - Volume of Cones, Pyramids and Spheres

We are still focusing on volume for today's lesson. We will be focusing on three types of figures, cones, pyramids and spheres. The video above shows how the formula for determining volume of a cone comes about. The video below shows how to derive the formula for the volume of a sphere.

To see some video examples of solving problems on the worksheet, click here (for cones and pyramids) and here (for spheres). We will also be taking a short quiz over surface area and volume on Wednesday as well. Students will be doing review sheets to prepare.
