4/10 Pre Algebra - Surface Area of Prisms and Cylinders

Today students continue where we left off before Easter break. We will continue our work with area by finding surface area of prisms and cylinders. We will do this using 2 different methods: drawing a net (unfolding the solid) and using the formula (perimeter times height plus area of bases). You can click here to see a demonstration on how to find surface area. We will be doing a worksheet together in class, doing another worksheet that students will turn in for a grade, and there will be a short homework assignment as well.

Homework:
pages 541-2 6-12, 14-16

Extra Credit:
Post as a comment how you found the answer to #16 from the homework packet.

More Extra Credit:
Cut a pop can so you can make a net out of it and calculate the surface area. Bring the unfolded can and how you figured the area to me on Thursday.
