We began today with the 1.4 Lesson Test. We went over the answers and then I took questions over the homework assignment that was due. We then graded that in class. The students took the rest of the class period to work on the Review Packet for the Test over Sections 1-4. We will take this test on Tuesday, and it will be our first test grade.

8/30/06 Algebra 2
Today began with the Lesson 1.3 Test. Again, this is not for a grade, it is to determine which learning objectives are being met and which need some more work. We went over these in class so students are aware which objectives they are meeting. Studnets then asked questions over the homework that was due today, then we corrected them in class. We grouped sections 4 and 5 together for our lesson today, with the objectives as follows:
1) Solve an equation with variables x and y for either x or y
2) Solve common formulas for different variables
3) Solve story problems by assigning labels, creating an equation and solving
Students completed a worksheet in class, which we discussed afterward.
Homework:
pages 29-30 #'s 24-29 & page 38 #'s 18. 20-23
We are roughly scheduled for a test over Chapter 1 next Friday.

8/29/06 Applied Geometry
Students began the day by reviewing Lesson 1.3 from Friday with 2 review sheets. We graded the homework due for today and the bellwork in class. Today we focused on pairs of angles (vertical angles, linear pairs, complementary, supplementary and adjacent angles). Our objectives are as follows:
1)Define adjacent angles
2)Define a linear pair
3)Define complementary and supplementary angles
4)Find measures of pairs of angles
5)Define and identify vertical angles
Students were introduced to visual examples of the above on the computer. We worked through some examples of solving for angle measures with algebra on the board. Students practiced these with a worksheet and then completed some homework in class.
Homework (done in class today) due for Thursday:

Instructions for downloading worksheets
You may notice that in certain posts, when I refer to worksheets or lesson tests, the text looks like this. This means you can click on these and download them. I am using a free online file hosting service, so the link will take you to that page. Over on the right hand side, you will see the filename. Unfortunately, you will have to wait about 50 seconds for the link to activate (there is a timer on the bottom). All the files will be PDF so you can use Adobe Reader to view and print them. The link for Reader is in the sidebar of my blog homepage towards the bottom.

8/23/06 Pre Algebra
Students began class by completing the Lesson 1.1 Test. We moved on to Section 1.2 where our objectives are to 1)Represent an addtion or subtraction problem as an equation or as a verbal description 2)Represent an multiplication or subtraction problem as an equation or as a verbal description 3)Solve addition or subtraction problems and 4)Solve multiplication or division problems. After reviewing some examples of these, students will practice in class with worksheet, which we will go over together. Students then completed the 1.2 Lesson Test which was returned so they could see which objectives they reached.

8/22/06 Algebra 1
Today in class we introduced/reviewed the idea of a variable, what it stands for and how to evaluate an expression involving a variable. Our objectives are to evaluate a variable expression, use unit analysis to provide correct units for our answer, and take a verbal model and translate it to an expression using numbers and variables that we can then evaluate. Students practiced these in class with a worksheet and we will test them with our 1.1 Lesson test on Thursday.
Homework due for Thursday:
Pages 6-8 #'s 20-30 even, 36 & 38. #48 can be done for extra credit.
Examples:
1)Evaluate 8x if x=7.
2)Give the amount and units for traveling 70 miles per hour for 4 hours.
3)A baseball player's batting average can be found by taking the number of hits divided by at-bats. Find the batting average for a player with 50 hits in 200 at-bats.

8/22/06 Algebra 2
Today our objectives were to familiarize the students with the real numbers and their subsets (Whole Numbers, Integers, Rational & Irrational Numbers). Students also will be responsible for ordering these different types of numbers, according to their value on the number line. Third, we will review the properties of real numbers and how they apply to algebra. Students will also review simple arithmetic operations and convert units (such as feet per second to miles per hour). We will open class on Thursday with the 1.1 lesson test.

Pages 7-9, #'s 28-42 even, 54 & 60.

8/21/06 Pre-Algebra
I introduced myself today and explained to the students the procedures that we will use on a daily basis to run class. We discussed Lesson 1-1 in the book and our objectives were to identify numbers that are used to order and numbers that are used to measure. We also looked at patterns and sequences of numbers and predicted the next few numbers in the sequence. The students did a worksheet in class and we will take a short lesson test on Wednesday to test our learning objectives.
Homework due Wednesday: pages 4-5 #'s 6-24 even & 28

8/21/06 Applied Geometry
We learned about the basic terms of geometry in class today. The students will need to be able to identify and label points, lines, planes, segements, and rays. We illustrated some examples on the board and the students did some practice problems during class. Next time we will take a lesson test to see how we did. The homework that is due Wednesday is p. S-4, #'s 1-8. This will be collected at the beginning of class.

8/18/06 All Classes
Today I welcomed back all students, they filled out a questionnaire with some personal information, and I distributed books. We will start Monday with rules, expectations, procedures and our first lessons. I am looking forward to a fun and exciting year and I hope everyone else is as well. Have a great weekend and I will see A-day classes Monday!

How To Use My Site
The goal of the site is so you can find class-related material on the web. If you forget an assignment, log on to the website and find out what it was. For example, if you are a member of my Algebra class and we met on September 18th, find the 9/18/06 Alg 1 post on the right hand side under Previous Posts or Archives. Simple as that. Missing a worksheet? Download it from the day's post. (The worksheets are .pdf files, which can be viewed with Acrobat, found on the sidebar at right.) Contact me by email, found in my Profile. If you see an 'RSS' button in your address bar, you can click on it and bookmark the site to show the new entries. Isn't technology wonderful?
Welcome!

Welcome back to school! I created this blog so students and parents can keep track of assignments, download worksheets, and keep track of what each particular class is doing. To view the slideshow I will be showing to students on the first day click here. The slideshow goes over various procedures and rules that your students will need to know.
